Mohammed Sanusi, the President of the Nigeria Colleges of Education Games Association, on Wednesday in Abuja said that all was set to hold the 2013 NICEGA Games.
Sanusi told the News Agency of Nigeria that the association would hold a workshop for officials from February 12 to 15 to keep them abreast of changes in the rules.
NAN reports that the 18th NICEGA Games will hold at the Niger State College of Education, Minna from March 22 to April 1.
Sanusi said: “For the 2013 NICEGA games that will be played in 2014, we have agreed that it will take place in March.
“But as it is customary, we will have a workshop for officiating officials and that is preparatory to the competition itself.
“We want to keep them (officials) abreast of the changes in the rules and regulations of the game so as to avoid problem.
“We have finished all the preliminary competitions in team games and as usual, all colleges of education will come with all their players in athletics event.
“We are very far (in terms of preparations).
“As I have said, we do not have any allocation yet and corporate organisations and individuals are not forthcoming.
“So we have a very big challenge in the area of funding (but) we are still hoping that something will come to enable us handle the logistics.”
The NICEGA president added that the association had innovations to bring into the games but could not be introduced due to lack of funds.
Sanusi said: “We have so many things to do and we have started something good, which is appreciated by our congress members.
“We will give them (athletes and officials) track suits, vests and caps so that they will look decent and corporate but everything boils down to the wherewithal, the financial ability, which we don’t have.
“So we are reserving the new innovations against the coming NICEGA Games after this one.
“Because of what we want to bring, we need money to do it.
“When we don’t even have the money to service the usual things we used to have, if we now bring in new innovations, I think we are just deceiving ourselves.”
NAN reports that 70 colleges of education will participate in the 2013 Games that will feature seven sporting events.
The events are volleyball, handball, basketball, football, table tennis, badminton and athletics.
