Substitute Victor Osimhen headed in a late equaliser to give Napoli a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Cagliari to move the visitors within two points of the Serie A lead.

Cagliari dominated for long periods before Osimhen rose highest at the back post to head home a left-sided cross from Mario Rui in the 87th minute.

Gaston Pereiro put Cagliari ahead near the hour mark with a long, bouncing shot, after which the Sardinian club had numerous chances to add to their lead.

Napoli moved level with second-placed champions Inter Milan – who have a game in hand – on 54 points to sit behind AC Milan.

Cagliari remained in the drop zone, although they have joined 17th-placed Venezia on 22 points.
