Facts emerged on Tuesday how members of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory and members of the House of Representatives benefited from the demolished 572 housing units worth N50 billion by the FCT Development Authority.
The FCDA had in September 2012 demolished Minanuel Estate along Airport Road, Abuja.
However, at the investigative hearing on the demolition, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dino Melaye, disclosed how members of the FCT Committee in the Senate and House of Representatives benefited from the demolished Estate.
Melaye vowed to revoke the lands reallocated to the Senators and Reps back.
In his words: “Our findings have shown that the plots of land were reallocated to members of the FCT committees at the Senate and Reps in the last Assembly.
“It is unfortunate that the members of the committee became the beneficiaries of the plots.
“You destroyed the 572 houses and allocated it to Senators and Reps.
“This is not acceptable.
“We will investigate it and we will order the revocation of the lands.
“The Senators’ act is criminal and absurd.”
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that same committee members that investigated the demolished Estate were part of the people benefited from the plots.
Reacting to the allegation, the Director of Lands of the FCDA, Mainasara Babayo, confirmed the development to the Senate.
Babayo said though the plots were allocated to Minanuel Developers, but they were reallocated to another set of people, whose identity he refused to divulge.
Speaking earlier on behalf of those whose petitions led to the hearing by the Senate, Barrister Sam Ogala of Falana & Falana Chambers, claimed that the 572 housing units were completed before it wad demolished by the FCDA.
