Senator Ishaku Cliff Elisha Abbo, who slapped a nursing mother in a sex toy shop in Abuja, was once denied admission by Nigerian Navy authorities for being HIV positive, a search by The Eagle Online on Wikipedia has revealed.
Abbo had in 2004 applied for admission into the Nigerian Naval Training College, Onne, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and had passed the examination.
But on learning of his status, the Naval authorities withdrew the admission.
Abbo on February 9, 2004 then headed to court, claiming that he should not have been denied admission into the college on the grounds of his health status despite passing the recruitment test.
In a legal action instituted on his behalf by the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Chapter, Jude Okeke, at the Abuja Federal High Court, Abbo among others sought a declaration that his withdrawal from the School, by the Naval College and the Ministry of Defence, on account of his testing positive to the HIV virus is illegal, unlawful and breach of his fundamental right to personal dignity.
Abbo in 2019, contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, won the election for Adamawa North Senatorial District.
He defeated the incumbent and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Binta Garba.
While he scored 79,337 votes, Garba polled 63,219 votes.
