The Senate on Wednesday summoned the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, over the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Kachikwu had on Tuesday announced the creation of seven independent units from the NNPC on Tuesday.
The Senate in the letter of notification of meeting expressed shocked over the unbundling of NNPC without amending the Act that established the company and approved by the National Assembly.
The Minister is expected to appear before the Joint Committee of the Senate on Upstream, Downstream and Gas on Thursday to explain the reason he unbundled the NNPC without amending the Act.
The letter was signed by the Senate Committee Chairman on Downstream, Senator Tayo Alasoadura.
