Plans by the Senate to amend its rule book was jettisoned after a closed door meeting in the chamber.
Although the details of the meeting were sketchy as at press time, sources said it was in connection with the proposed amendments of the rule book.
The amendment had been scheduled in the Senate Order Paper for consideration, but nothing was said about it when the Senate resumed for plenary.
It could be recalled that the Senate rule book has created brouhaha in the past as some members accused of the Senate leadership of forging it to pave the way for the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to emerge.
The major amendment in the rule book, according to order paper obtained by our correspondent, is to increase the number of standing committees in order for the lawmakers to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
The amendments were sponsored by the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.
The motion was titled: “Amendment of the Standing Rules of the Senate pursuant to Order 110 of the Senate Standing Rule, 2015.”
