Senate says no to Sovereign National Conference

The Senate on Tuesday said it remains the clearing house for all grievances anyone might have.
It, as such, advised Nigerians nursing the ambition of the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference to forget it.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media, Information and Public Affairs, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who spoke with newsmen after plenary on Tuesday advised those clamouring for the holding of the SNC to appreciate the fact that there already exist elected representatives of the people.
He said that this was why the House of Representatives and the Senate were in existence.
Abaribe said: “We do not understand the position of those who want SNC.
“If you want anything discussed or any amendment in the constitution, the right vehicle is the National Assembly.
“Olisa Agbakoba, an eminent lawyer, has some amendments he wanted effected in the Constitution, he channelled it through me.
“The bill has been read the first time.”
