A contender for the position of the Senate President in the ninth National Assembly, Senator Ali Ndume, has said he won’t step down from the race despite pressure being brought to bear on him.
Ndume said this on Monday shortly after a meeting with the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Ndume’s party, All Progressives Congress, and top members of the APC, including governors, have been making efforts to stop Ndume from contesting for the Senate presidency.
They want him to back the anointed candidate of President Muhammadu Buhari and the party, Senator Ahmad Lawan.
But Ndume, whose meeting with the Vice President started at about 3.20pm on Monday, told State House Correspondents when he was through that he does not intend to step down.
The Borno State-born politician when asked if he would succumb to pressure by his party to step down for Lawan, said: “Me?
“Step down?
“I am still consulting.”
When told that he had become the bride of the opposition, Ndume, who has also been brought under pressure by his State Governor, Kashim Shettima, said: “Me?
“Who is regarded as enemy by the opposition?”
