The Senate on Wednesday unanimously postponed the National Security Summit for two weeks.
The Senate decision was sequel to a Point of Order raised by the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, who is also the Chairman of the Senate ad-hoc committee of the current security infrastructures in Nigeria.
Lawan argued that next week is too short to organise a good security summit, pleading for two weeks extension.
According to him: “Next week is too short to organize a summit that’s worth its name for good outcome.
“We urge the Senate to postpone the summit for two weeks when we would have arrived at fine arrangement.
When the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, put the question, senators unanimously agreed to the postponement of the summit.
It could be recalled that the Senate on Wednesday agreed to suspend plenary session for Wednesday and Thursday next week for the purpose of holding a national summit on rising insecurity across Nigeria.
The Senate decision was sequel to fresh motion raised by Senator Shuaibu Lau over an attacks in Lau town and other communities in Taraba State.
Many senators who spoke on the motion claimed that armed Fulani herdsmen are members of Boko Haram terrorist group who came in from the North East.
