The Senate on Tuesday summoned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Defence, Ali Mansur, over the withdrawal of $462 million from the Federation Account for the purchase of helicopters from United States of America without National Assembly’s approval.
The Senate decision was sequel to a point of order raised by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who came under Order 43, making reference to sections 80, 2 and 3 of the Constitution.
Anyanwu informed the Senate that the Government withdrew $462 million from the CBN in March without the approval of the National Assembly.
He added that he is not sure of President Muhammadu Buhari whether sent any approval for such funds to be released.
Responding to point of order, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Appropriation to invite the Ministers of Finance, Defence and the Governor of the CBN to shed more light on the release and submit the report within one week.
