The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of a new Governor for the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele is to replace Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was suspended following allegations of financial recklessness.
The Senate unanimously approved the appointment of Emefiele, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank.
The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, said it was a key appointment, adding: “Emefiele will ensure the prerequisite responsibilities of the Central Bank governor without fear or favour.”
Sanusi was suspended on February 20.
