The Senate Adhoc Committee investigating the invasion of the National Assembly by policemen on Monday started hearing as the committee summoned the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Command, Wilson Inalegwu, to explain why he ordered the move.
The Police had on November 20 invaded the National Assembly, locking out Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and some members of House of Representatives.
However the Nigerian Police had explained that it acted based on security reports that the National Assembly would be invaded by thugs.
Initially, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, rejected coverage of the hearing.
Makarfi was however prevailed upon by committee members to allow journalists to cover the hearing.
On the first day of the hearing, the Divisional Police Officer of the National Assembly, told the committee that the instructions to close the gates on November 20 was based on a directive received from the Federal Capital Territory Command.
