Steve Clarke has been announced as Scotland’s new manager on a three-year deal, seeing him lead the side through to the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The 55-year-old has been named Alex McLeish’s successor after leading Kilmarnock to an impressive third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership – the Ayrshire outfit’s highest league finish since 1966.
McLeish was sacked as head coach last month after suffering a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Kazakhstan in their opening game of Euro 2020 qualifying.
And although a 2-0 win over San Marino followed – the SFA decided it was time for a change after 14 months in charge.
Clarke’s achievements, which have not only confirmed European football for the first time in 18 years at Rugby Park next season, also saw him named Scottish Premiership Manager of the Season, PFA Scotland and Scottish Football Writers’ Manager of the Season.
The appointment gives Clarke just over a week to draw up his first squad ahead of Scotland’s European Qualifiers double-header against Cyprus and Belgium next month.
