Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has poured more encomiums on the late Senate Leader, Senator Abubakar Olusola Saraki, describing him as a father to all.
The governor, who paid a condolence visit to the Sarakis in Ilorin, weekend, and also attended the Fidau prayers organised by the state government, wrote in the condolence register: “A true father to all; generous and kind and accepted all who needed his fatherly love.”
While commiserating with the Sarakis on the death of their patriarch, Oshiomhole recalled his first encounter with the deceased as a young trade union activist, how the late Saraki bailed them out when they ran out of money and could not pay their hotel bills after a union meeting in Ilorin.
He said while Saraki’s contributions to the development of Nigeria’s politics is well known, his service to the cause of the masses stood him out among the rest. “The point about life is how one is remembered when he dies. Dr Saraki accepted all as his children, and is being remembered by all who looked up to him as a father,” the governor noted.
Oshiomhole noted that the passing of the former Senate Leader would not only be missed by his family and political associates but also by all whose lives he positively impacted on.
He urged the family to accept the loss with fortitude as true Muslims.
Responding on behalf of the family, Dr. Bukola Saraki, former Governor of Kwara State and son of the late Waziri of Ilorin, thanked Oshiomhole for the visit, noting that the family is comforted by the words of encouragement.
