The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has stated that the story of Masai Ujiri, the Nigerian-born President of North America’s National Basketball Association Toronto Raptors, is an inspiration to young sports enthusiasts across the nation.
In a series of tweets, Saraki commended Ujiri for leading his Toronto Raptors to the NBA Finals for the first time in the team’s history.
Saraki tweeted: “From basketball courts in Nigeria, all the way to the Boardrooms of the NBA, the inspiring story of Masai Ujiri, the President of the Toronto Raptors is another testament of the ‘Can Do’ spirit that lies within all Nigerians.
“Masai, who manages the operations of the Raptors will have his name recorded in the annals of sports history for taking the team to the #NBAFinals for the very first time.
“I am sure that young basketball fans and players across Nigeria will continue to look up to men like Masai, who have paved a new path for the upcoming generation of sports enthusiasts to aspire to.
“On this note, I congratulate Masai on the Raptors victory in Game 1 of the #NBAFinals, and wish both he and his team utmost success in their upcoming games.”
Ujiri’s raptors will be taking on the 2018 NBA Champions, the Golden State Warriors, in Game 2 of the best-out-of 7 games NBA Finals on June 3.
