Sampdoria are leading the chase to bring Angelo Ogbonna back to Serie A, according to sources in Italy.
According to Primocanale, Ogbonna – who has only recently recovered from a serious injury that required surgery – is a top target for I Blucerchiati, who finished last season 10th in the Italian top flight.
Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo is understood to view Ogbonna as the perfect replacement for Milan Skriniar, the €25m-rated Slovakian central defender who is expected to leave for pastures new this summer (Inter and Everton have both been linked).
Ogbonna is reported to have privately expressed a desire to return to his homeland, having missed much of last season through injury which subsequently led to the loss of his place in the national team.
