The Vice President, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has called on members of the Alumni Association, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State to support President Goodluck Jonathan and the Transformation Agenda of the Administration.
Speaking on Thursday during an audience with the new Exco members of the Association at the State House, Abuja, Sambo said the Transformation Agenda is highly commendable in terms of the results being recorded in key sectors of the economy.
He highlighted the progress made by the administration in the power sector.
He said by 2016, the country would be able to generate 20,000MW of electricity.
He said that when work is completed on all the power plants, including Mambilla, Gurara and the 250MW of Kaduna power plants as well as the 10 thermal power plants about to be commissioned by Jonathan, electricity supply would be adequate to drive industrialization in the country.
Sambo said the textile association has commended the Federal Government for reviving the textile industry, adding that 35 textile companies, which were moribund, had been resuscitated and would function effectively with adequate power supply being put in place.
He said: “It is the vision of President Jonathan to transform the agric sector and turn it into a business venture.
“It is also the vision of Mr. President to make sure every Nigerian child goes to school.
“That is why Almajiri school is being built.
“Apart from infrastructure, school uniforms and books are being given to pupils.”
Sambo added that the administration is also addressing the issue of the environment as government has approved the release of N10 billion for the Great Green Wall project.
In order to check maternal and infant mortality in the country, he said the administration is transforming the health sector.
Sambo congratulated the executive committee members and wished them wisdom and God’s guidance in their duty.
Earlier, members of the Association, led by their President, Major General Lawrence Onoja (rtd), said the AANI is “encouraged that under Jonathan administration, there has been massive investments in agriculture, housing and construction, manufacturing, aviation, power, roads, rail, solid minerals and the information and communication technology sectors by both the government and the private sector.”
The association noted and commended the support and loyalty of the vice president to Jonathan, which has consolidated peace and development in the country.
