For the second day running, staff of the National Identity Management Commission, who were sacked last year, have again shut down the National Assembly, Abuja, causing serious traffic gridlock.
Federal lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly are having hectic stress gaining access into the Complex when our reporter visited the Three Arms Zone in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday morning.
The staff, about 4,000, who claimed they were sacked by the Director General of the Commission, Chris Onyenema, without following due process, started the protest on Tuesday.
They stormed the National Assembly Complex carrying placards, demanding their reinstatement and the sack of the NIMC Director General.
Interestingly, the lawmakers seem not concerned as the protest did not come up for mention at the plenary session of both Chambers on Tuesday.
The protesters have however vowed to carry on until the lawmakers deem it fit to listen to their plight.
