A breath of fresh hope came the way of victims of the fire incident at the popular Sabo Market in Sagamu, Ogun State as a former Governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on Wednesday visited the scene with the promise of assistance through the Gateway Front Foundation.
Market women, traders and residents all trooped out in hundreds as Daniel, accompanied by some community leaders, visited the scene of the incident.
Daniel was accompanied by former Special Adviser on Security, Alhaji Lamidi Odulawa; former Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Idowu Osho; Otunba Kunle Orekoya; Otunba Funmi Aina; and some members of the newly inaugurated Sagamu Local Government Transition Committee led by Hon. Gbenga Banjo Baruwa.
They went round the market to assess the extent of damage done by the inferno.
The victims and people within the vicinity could not hold their joy as they openly showered praises on the former Governor’s entourage for the sympathy shown, appealing for assistance from the State Government and relevant humanitarian agencies.
Meeting with the officials of the Akarigbo-In-Council Committee for Administration of Sabo Market, the former governor commiserated with the good people of Sagamu, especially those who lost valuables in the unfortunate incident, assuring them that the GFF will do all within its capacity to comfort those whose merchandise and personal effects got destroyed in the fire outbreak.
Otunba Daniel also commended the prompt response of the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who had earlier visited the scene, describing him as a listening and passionate Governor, who, he believes, will definitely do the needful.
Though, it is a natural disaster, he however appealed to the traders and stakeholders in the market to guide against such ugly incident and forestall future occurrence through mass education, advocacy and enlightenment.
