RUST commends NDDC on IT centre

The Rivers State University of Science and Technology has commended the Niger Delta Development commission for its pioneering effort in the establishment of an information technology center in the institution.

The university is Nigeria’s premier university of science and technology.

Speaking when the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Christian Oboh, paid a working visit to the school, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barine Fakae, disclosed that the commission laid the foundation of the institution’s e-center with the donation of 140 work centres.

 According to him, the IT centre is also fully powered by the NDDC through the donation of two 325kva generators.

“NDDC set the pace, we try to use the standard you set to challenge others,” Fakae said.

 He stated that the centre had been so expanded to the extent that oil companies and other corporate organisations enlist its services for online examinations.

 Fakae commended the choice of Oboh as the Managing Director of NDDC, describing him as a dedicated and committed young man who proved himself even as a lecturer in the university.

Earlier, the NDDC Boss had said that the commission was proud to be associated with the university and was willing to enter into more partnerships with the institution.

He said: “We are here to partner with your ICT department on the engagement of some engineers.

“Our commission is willing to partner with you, even in our post graduate scholarship programme.

On the hostel accommodation by the NDDC, the Managing Director said: “We are in the process of directing the contractors to quickly clean up the hostels.”

 In another development, Oboh has ordered the immediate release of one water ambulance each to Bayelsa and Delta States.

The NDDC Chief Executive Officer gave the directive when he visited the commission’s warehouse at Oroworokwo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Oboh, who was irked by the abandonment of the two new ambulances at the warehouse, stated that the commission cannot afford to have them waste away when there are those in dire need of them.

He said: “We have people in the riverine areas that need to be conveyed to hospitals as quickly as possible.

“From what I can see, we don’t really need them here.

“So we will try to put them in the best form of use and release them to the states that need them.”

He disclosed that the NDDC will also seek partnership with ministries of heath in the other states that have need for water ambulances to see how the commission could make same available to them.
