The Governor of Rotary Club, District 9125, Felix A Obadan, has advocated cooperation and collaboration between the Rotary Club International and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the area of promoting professional ethics and peace in Nigeria.
The District Governor made the call when he led a team of the district’s top officials from 23 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on a courtesy visit to the Kano Zonal office of the Commission.
Obadan said they were at the EFCC because they believe in the work of the Commission.
“We at the Rotary Club believe in what EFCC is doing and would want to encourage the Commission to join the Rotary Club in promoting integrity in Nigeria so that peace can endure through selfless services,” he added.
Rotarian Obadan explained that the Rotary International, with members drawn from various professions, is committed to the promotion of ethical standard and values that promote humanity and above all peace through selfless service.
He said: “As District Governor, it is my duty to visit all the Clubs in my district and Kano being the cradle of the club in Nigeria, I must visit and interact with organizations like the EFCC and seek her helping hand in the pursuit of the objectives of the Rotary Club embodied in the Four-Way-Test of the Club and our involvement in humanitarian activity that promote values and help people in need.
“We are therefore advocating for a collaborative effort from the EFCC in the pursuit of peace and values that promote humanity, ethical standard and integrity in leadership.”
Receiving the delegation, the Head of Operations of the EFCC, Kano Office, Ishaq Salihu, thanked them for the visit and expressed the Commission’s readiness to collaborate with individuals and organisations that have extended a hand of partnership in the anti-corruption crusade.
Salihu said: “The EFCC is a child of circumstance. It came at a time Nigeria was drifting to the abyss of a pariah nation. It almost became a haven of fraudster and money launderers ….
“So far, we have recorded breakthroughs in the area of prosecution and convictions.
“No doubt collaborative efforts with an organization like the Rotary Club can actually give the fight the desired boost particularly in the area of sensitization and public enlightenment.”
The high point of the visit was the presentation of souvenirs and the decoration of the District Governor and his team with the EFCC suit lapel emblem.
