Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde believes the “rivalry” between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is over after the latter’s move to Juventus.
The Portuguese star joined the Old Lady in a €100 million deal earlier this summer after nine years of competing against Messi directly for honours within Spain and European competition.
“Ronaldo’s departure (from Madrid) will probably end that particular rivalry,” Valverde told Barca club media.
“People would always mention the other when one interested the competition so this move will likely change that quite a bit.
“It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid’s football changes, to see what they may do in the transfer market and what the move means for La Liga and in European competition.”
