Dare devil robbers on Thursday carted away About N3.5 million, meant for the settlement of unpaid winning allowances and up keep of players in the Delta state government-owned football team, Warri Wolves FC, a division one club side.
The robbery incident which occurred within Enerhen road area in the heart of the city, saw a three man robbery gang accosting the officials of the team who had gone to withdraw the money at gunpoint on their way to the office after making the withdrawal from one of the new generation banks operating in that area.
According to sources, “after making the withdrawal and making their way to the office, a three-man armed robbery gang, closed in on the vehicle the officials were driving in and collect part of the total sum withdrawn at gun point”.
“The robbers attacked the vehicle conveying both the team’s Manager, identified as Gordon, and the teams media officer, Azuka Chiamaka, around Enerhen Motel, along Enerhen Road, Uvwie council area of Delta state and immediately demanded tge money from them with a treat to comply with their directive if they value their lives”, sources hinted.
The Sun learnt further that, “It happened close to Enerhen Motel, after Azuka and Gordons had left the bank opposite Urhobo College. The three-man gang were putting on military face caps. Warri Wolves officials collected N6m and N3.5m was kept in one bag, the other bag had 2.5m kept inside Azuka’s tyre space in his car booth, the robbers only collected the 3.5m they saw thinking that was all”, a source said
The General Manager of the club, Mr. Moses Etu, when contacted for comment, said he would not make a comment, saying ”talk to my media officer abeg, I won’t grant any interview, talk to my media officer”. When asked for his media officer’s number, he said ”look for him, I don’t have his number, I’m in a meeting”.
The Club Spokesman, Mr. Azuka Chiamaka, also pleaded for time before making an official statement.
