The Jigawa State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the killing of a man, Ali Salisu, by suspected armed robbers in Mallammadori Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Abdu Jinjiri, told News Agency of Nigeria in Mallammadori that one person was injured in the incident that occurred on Monday.
He said Salisu, 27, was shot dead by the robbers when they broke into the house of a local businessman, Alhaji Alhassan Maigoro.
Jinjiri said: “At about 2:30 on March 2, a group of nine armed robbers broke into the house of Maigoro at Anguwan Barebari area and demanded for money from him.
“On sighting the criminals, Maigoro started screaming, which attracted the attention of his neighbour, Salisu, who moved in to offer help.
“Unfortunately, Salisu was gunned down on the spot when the robbers felt threatened by him.
“One other person sustained injury in the incident and is now receiving treatment in a hospital.”
Jinjiri said the robbers immediately fled the scene on sighting policemen who were on patrol in the area.
He said the matter was under investigation with a view to arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book.
