Robbers, numbering over 20, apparently on a reprisal, attacked and killed a hotel owner on Sunday in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
The gunmen were also alleged to have injured about five others, who were occupants of the hotel.
The robbers, who were said to be many, attacked the hotel, located at a remote area, at about 3am and killed the owner of the hotel.
They were also said to have angrily set some cars ablaze, while they injured some people found in the hotel.
It was gathered that the robbers were on a reprisal attack on the hotel owner, whom they believed gave information to Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives, leading to the subsequent arrest of the leader of their gang.
The fuming robbers also searched everywhere for petrol to set the hotel on fire, but could not find any.
While some sources claimed that five people were killed, others insisted that five were injured and were rushed to hospital.
Police spokesperson in Lagos State, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident, insisted that she was still gathering facts about the matter.
Braide however confirmed that the owner of the hotel was killed, but was not yet aware of any other casualties aside from a slain robber during a gun duel with policemen.
She added: “The Area Commander received a distress call and quickly swung into action. He and a team of policemen raced down to the scene. The robbers saw them coming and opened fire, while attempting to escape. The police chased the robbers and there was exchanged of gun fire. One of the robbers was killed and an AK47 rifles recovered from him.
“It was after the policemen entered the hotel that they discovered that the owner of the hotel had been killed.”
