Tonye Princewill, the Labour Party governorship candidate in Rivers State, has promised to empower Small and Medium Enterprises to give jobs to unemployed people, if voted into power.
Princewill, who is LP’s flag bearer in the 2015 general elections, made the promise in Port Harcourt on Thursday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
He said that the highest employer of labour was the small and medium scale enterprises that dotted the country.
He said if voted into office by 2015, his administration would tackle problems affecting the growth of business enterprises in the state.
Princewill said: “I have gone round the 23 local government councils in the state and the major problem is unemployment.
“So I have decided to give adequate attention to job creation.
“The business community in Rivers and even the country at large experience major setbacks due to multiple taxation, access to affordable capital, high interest rates by commercial banks and lack of electricity.
“What Rivers government would do under my leadership is to target and support SMEs by providing micro-credits to enable it grow so that it could employ our teeming youths.
“The present administration has not done badly in power generation.
“Our major problem is distribution.
“My administration would increase our distribution capacity to positively impact on SMEs.”
