The Rivers State Government has affirmed its support for the Victor Ezeji Testimonial scheduled to hold on December 10 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyaye, made the disclosure on Friday in Port Harcourt when the Main Organising Committee for the testimonial visited him.
Carl Orakwue, the Chairman of the Publicity Sub-committee of the MOC, said in a statement that the commissioner assured them that they would receive the Rivers State Government’s support to host a befitting testimonial.
The statement acknowledged Ezeji’s service for defunct Rivers clubs, Sharks FC and Dolphins FC and also commended his choice of Port Harcourt as the city to host the testimonial.
The statement said: “The government will support Ezeji; the government will support the MOC to ensure that you have a hitch-free testimonial.
“For Ezeji to decide that his testimonial will hold in Port Harcourt shows the love and respect he has for our city and the people of Rivers.
“You played for Sharks, won laurels. You played for Dolphins and won laurels also. We thus, consider you a part and parcel of Rivers United and a legend of the club.”
The statement also said the MOC’s Chairman, China Acheru, thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for expressing willingness to honour Ezeji by supporting the testimonial.
Ezeji is from Abia State but grew up in Port Harcourt and is considered a true Port Harcourt boy.
He started his playing career in Port Harcourt, got married in the city and still lives in the Rivers capital at the moment.
Following his official retirement from the round leather game, Ezeji decided to also bid an official farewell to his fans with one last match.
