Dream Team VI handler, Samson Siasia, has shut the Rio 2016 Olympics door on Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel.
Siasia said he has no plans to invite the player as one of the overaged players for the Games.
SiaOne, as he is fondly called, made this revelation on a SuperSport programme monitored in Lagos on Wednesday.
His words: “No irregular player will be included in the final squad to Brazil. I’m to choose from the defence, midfield and the attack. So, I’m definitely going to look out for those that have playing time in their respective clubs.
“You will agree with me that we still have a long way to go. So I’m still undecided on the areas that the overage players would be needed but I’m happy that the likes of Ighalo (Odion), Musa (Ahmed) are in top form now and I hope they will sustain it until the Olympics.”
Though, the gaffer didn’t categorically mention those that won’t make his final squad, but his comment somewhat rules out the Chelsea’s star from the 23-man party to Brazil.
Checks revealed that Mikel has only made three appearances for the Stamford Bridge side this season, which is a shortfall from Siasia’s requirement to make the Olympics.
