A retired civil servant, Edwin Hyginus, on Wednesday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla 1986 model worth N200,000.
The police charged Hyginus with criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the defendant entered the premises of the complainant, David Hamza on Arab Road, Kubwa, Abuja on June 14.
Okpa alleged that the defendant conspired with other persons at large and stole a Toyota Corolla 1986 model worth N200,000.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 342 and 288 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Charles Nwabuike, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, citing Section 162 and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
The Judge, Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
Adamu ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present means of identification.
He adjourned the case until March 8 for hearing.
