Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu male’s team, have emerged winners of Guaranty Trust Bank/Ogun State Principal Cup.
The Remo Boys defeated hard-fighting Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu-Ode on 5-3 penalty shoot-out.
The keenly contested final, played over the weekend at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, was dominated by the Adeola Odutola College boys who created more of the chances but were denied goals by brilliant effort of Remo goaltender, Biodun Adebayo.
The thrilling encounter was watched by Governor Ibikunle Amosun; his wife, Olufunso; and deputy, Prince Segun Adesegun; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Suraj Adekunbi; the Managing Director of GTBank, Segun Agbaje; as well as the Ogun State Education Commissioner, Barrister Segun Odubela; and Youth and Sports Commissioner, Prince Lanre Tejuoso.
Biodun Adebayo turned out to be the hero of the historic match, stopping the first kick of the Ijebu-Ode boys and later took the winning kick from the spot to send hundreds of the Remo Divisional High School supporters into wide jubilation.
Remo Divisional High School had in similar fashion dismissed Egba Division’s champion, Pakoto High School, Ayede, 5-4 in the semi-final, while Adeola Odutola College managed a 2-1 slim victory against Yewa-Egbado College, Ilaro.
Adeola Odutola College won cash prize of N750,000 while Pakoto High School smiled home with N500,000 cash for clinching the third spot after beating Yewa-Egbado College 3-1.
In the female final, Alamuwa Grammar School, Ado-Odo Otta won the golden prize of N1 million after being forced to a one-all draw at the end of full and extra time by Egba-Owode Grammar School.
Kudirat Olorunsogo’s late minute 30 yards shot cancelled out Alamuwa Grammar School’s Precious Ozugbo early goal in the fifth minute before the Alamuwa side later won the penalties shoot-out 5-3 to avenge the loss of their male side, who won the season-one of the competition last year.
Egba-Owode girls won the N750,000 for emerging runners-up while Remo Divisional High School side, which defeated Our Lady Of Apostles College, Ijebu-Ode 5-4 in the third place match via penalties shoot-out, also smiled to the bank with N500,000 cash prize.
