The Federal Road Safety Commission says it has deployed patrol and towing vehicles, alongside officers, for traffic management during the Annual Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
The RCCG has scheduled its 2013 Annual Holy Ghost Congress to hold from December 9 to 14 at its Redemption Camp at Km. 46 of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway at Mowe in Ogun State.
Thousands of worshippers usually attend the yearly programme, presided over by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, which often results in gridlock in the environs.
The FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone 2, Ademola Lawal, said on Tuesday that the corps had mapped out plans to ensure free flow of traffic around the camp during the period.
Lawal, whose zone comprises Lagos and Ogun State, said that about 100 officers, including Special Marshals and six patrol teams, had been deployed, to ensure free flow of traffic during the event.
The Assistant Corps Marshal urged motorists to cooperate with the FRSC by obeying traffic laws and warned that offenders would be penalised.
He said: “Our office has been contacted to ease traffic along the route and we are ready for the event.
“We have mobilised about 100 personnel, six patrol teams and two power bikes for the event.
“We cannot be caught unawares at all.
“We are on top of the situation, only that the road users must obey traffic regulations because traffic offences will attract appropriate penalties.
“Drivers should avoid dangerous driving, use of phones while driving, illegal parking and other actions that are inimical to safety.”
The FRSC Mowe Unit Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, also said that the command had identified all routes leading to the camp for effective traffic management.
Ogunjobi said that the unit had placed officers on routes leading to the venue of the event, to enhance free flow of traffic.
He said: “We have mobilised all our officers and strategically placed them along the expressway, to ensure free flow of traffic.
“What we need from drivers is to obey traffic laws for their good and the security of other road users.”
