Rain grinds Lagos to a halt again

The second rain of the year in most parts of Lagos on Saturday virtually brought activities in the commercial nerve centre of the country to a halt.
The rain, which began a little after midday brought commercial and social activities to a halt, with nerve wracking traffic occasioned by flood.
From Victoria Island to the mainland, the situation was the same.

Ikorodu Road appeared to be the worse hit.
The stretch between Maryland and Ojota (the picture above) was flooded to the extent that vehicles could no longer pass.
It was the same thing at Marketing area of Ogba, where several companies are located.
The stretch of road between Mobil Filling Station and the popular Sunday Market, on which the government has spent millions of naira in the last five years, was also not usable for most part of the day yesterday.
Several vehicle owner had hectic time pushing their vehicles, which broke down as a result of the heavy downpour.
The drainage system on which the state government had made huge investment over the years have given way.
The Eagle Online also observed that dirt, in large quantities, were thrown into the drainage system by Lagosians immediately the rain began.
This blocked the drainage in some areas, forcing the flood onto the road.
