Politicians loyal to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State have said they would boycott the upcoming Special National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja.
It is slated for August 31.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, the Chairman of the Rivers State Caucus in the National Assembly, Hon. Honourable Asita, said the boycott was in solidarity with Amaechi.
Asita said that the boycott was for the politicians concerned to express their dissatisfaction with the “unconstitutional suspension of the governor”.
Asita said the move also based on the recent “illegal expulsion” of some members of the party in Rivers State.
The lawmaker stated that all categories of elected and appointed politicians loyal to Amaechi were represented at the news conference.
He said: “As the chairman of the Rivers State Caucus in the National Assembly, I have interacted with the National Assembly.
“Ten members of the House of Representatives and two senators support this boycott.
“The 23 council chairmen who are delegates to the convention have also agreed to this boycott.
“We are the duly elected delegates to the national convention by virtue of our offices.”
