Walid Jibril, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Board of Trustees, says the party will be fair to all aspirants as the party conducts its primaries across the country on Sunday.
Jibril gave the assurance on Sunday in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, venue of the state governorship primaries.
He said that the party had learned a lot of lessons from some of the wrong doings of the past that made it lose election in 2015 and that it was not ready to repeat them.
He said: “Imposition of candidates and impunity were responsible for our losing election in 2015 and we have learned from our past mistakes.
“This time around, the party has given the delegates free hand to vote for the aspirants of their choice.”
Jibril added that the party was determined more than ever to promote internal democracy in order to ensure that only popular candidates emerged in all primaries.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the primaries which feature five aspirants all from Nasarawa North Senatorial Zone, began at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Anyanwu, Chairman of the Nasarawa State PDP Primary Committee, has barred journalists from covering the event, explaining that he would only address them at the end of the exercise.
