The Presidential Advisory Council has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Its Chairman, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, made the commendation while fielding questions from State House correspondents shortly after breakfast meeting of the council with President Jonathan at the Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
Anyaoku, a former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, told the President that Nigerians were grateful to him for what he had done during and after the polls.
He said that the council had an “excellent valedictory” meeting with the President.
He said: “Well, we had an excellent valedictory meeting with the President.
“This being the last meeting of our council and the last time we are meeting with the outgoing president.
“We told him that our nation, Nigeria, owes him a huge debt of gratitude for what he has done in terms of the elections, the success of the elections.
“And above all, in terms of his gesture in picking up his telephone and congratulating the President-elect even before the final results of the elections were announced.
“That singular act has earned our country a great deal of admiration and respect abroad, and we thanked him and we congratulated him on that.
“And we also wished him well for his future endeavours.”
