Pray for fire fighter who died in line of duty, FFS boss tells Nigerians

The Commandant-General of the Federal Fire Service, joseph Anebi, has urged Nigerians to remember and pray for fire fighters who died in the line of duty.
Anebi made the call at the International Fire Fighters Day celebration in Abuja on Friday.
The commandant-general, who was represented by Assistant Controller-General, Quintus Azogu, said the fallen heroes lost their lives while trying to save others from the menace of uncontrolled fire outbreaks.
He said: “Appreciate and support firefighters who continue to endanger their lives in the interest of public safety.”
He explained that new and emerging challenges had heightened the threats faced by firefighters in the field.
He said: “Public buildings have become larger and more complex as increase in size of compartments and occupancy load imply more stairwells, corridors and voids.
Anebi said building features provided paths for smoke and heat spread in buildings thereby compromising evacuation effort during fire emergencies.
He said most State Governments were not doing what they were supposed to do in terms of equipping and funding of states’ fire stations.
He, however, appreciated the efforts of the present administration at equipping the service.
Anebi concluded: “For the past 30 years we didn’t have enough equipment and personnel but we are grateful to the present government for providing us with 40 new firefighting trucks and we have deployed some to the zones.
