The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has described as embarrassing, pathetic and unfortunate the indefinitely postponement of the party’s National Convention.
The APC National Convention, earlier slated for February 26, has been postponed indefinitely by the party’s leadership.
This was announced by the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
The party, in a letter dated February 21, 2022 and jointly signed by its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Buni, and Secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, which was addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, notified the commission of its decision to now conduct Zonal Congresses on March 26.
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State APC Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said: “It is embarrassing, pathetic and unfortunate to say the least.
“This is unbecoming of the ruling party.
“As a party, we need to start taking ourselves seriously.
“There is no justification for the postponement.
“We believe February 26 should be sacrosanct, especially coming with the approval of the highest authority in the party, the National Leader of the party, Mr. President.
“After a long wait for the National Convention, members of the party are shocked with the latest indefinite postponement of the party’s National Convention.
“It remains a shock to the majority of the members of the party.
“It still amounts to not managing our affairs properly.
“The only thing I advice is that we should get our house together and ensure that we get the party up and running in the true tenet of democracy.
“For us to have endless caretaker committee in place instead of a duly elected executive of the party at the national level, is most unacceptable and undemocratic.”
Oladejo said that the earlier the ruling party was able to have its National Convention, the better for everybody in the party in moving forward.
According to him, this is imperative in view of the fact that the national elections and primaries for various offices are fast approaching.
Oladejo urged the national leadership of the party to do the right thing quickly to avoid negative repercussions and consequences delay in conducting national convention could bring to the party.
