Polls: IGP sends special units to Rivers, deploys AIGs to states

The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Thursday deployed Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to supervise Saturday’s gubernatorial and Houses of Assembly elections.
The deployment of the AIGs was in addition to an earlier posting of six Deputy Inspectors-General of Police to coordinate Police activities in the six geopolitical zones.
The AIGs redeployed on Thursday were: Usman A. Gwary – Abia State; Olufemi Adenaike – Kwara State; Mbu J. Mbu – Ogun State; Patrick Dey Dokumor – Kaduna State; Tambari Y. Muhammed – Jigawa State; Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar – Gombe State; Ikemefuna R. Okoye – Oyo State; and Tunde Ogunsakin – Rivers State.
Others were: Jubril O. Adeniji – Bauchi State; Yerima Irimiya – Imo State; Baba Adisa Bolanta – Akwa -Ibom State; Lawal Tanko – Nasarawa State; Ballah M. Benue State; Musa Abdulsalam Daura – Edo State; Aderele T. Shinaba – Plateau State; and Bala A. Hassan – Sokoto State.
The deployment for election duties also affected the following Commissioners of Police: Anambra State – CP Sam Okaula; Ekiti State – CP E. J. Ibine; Enugu State – CP Adamu Mohammed; Osun State – CP Valentine Ntomchukwu.
Also, the IGP has deployed a Commissioner of Police to command each of the three senatorial zones of the following states: Gombe, Bauchi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Benue, Edo, Plateau and Sokoto.
For Rivers State, the following Special Units of the Nigeria Police Force have been deployed to address security concerns: 32 units of Police Mobile Force, four units of Counter terrorism Units, four units of Special Protection Units and six crack teams of detectives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department and complements of intelligence officers.
