A detachment of policemen from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja on Monday stormed the National Assembly in search of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
The police had on Sunday invited Ekweremadu for interrogation over alleged forgery of the Senate rules.
In the bid to achieve this, a team of policemen stormed the Senate Wing of the National Assembly in search of Ekweremadu.
It was gathered that the stern looking policemen, who were in the National Assembly, also visited the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly.
However, Ekweremadu was not in the office when the police came to extend the invitation to him.
It was learnt on Monday that the petition against Ekweremadu was originated by members of the Unity Forum.
The Unity Forum is made up of senators loyal to Senator Ahmad Lawan, who was chosen by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to emerge as the President of the Senate.
The letter by the Unity Forum, dated June 30 and signed by the Secretary of the group, Senator Suleman Othman Hukuyi, was addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
