Dare devil armed robbers on Thursday engaged men of the Delta State Police Command in a shootout in Warri axis of the state.
The operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Patrol team intercepted the gang at Igbudu market by Okere road, Warri, while attempting to raid unsuspecting buyers and sellers at the market.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Celestina Kalu, said “the criminals, on sighting the patrol team opened fire on the team but in line with the rules of engagement, the team defended themselves.
“In the process one of the armed robbers identified as one Kingdom Odiaso ‘m’, aged 23yrs, was hit on his leg and arrested while others escaped.”
She listed the items recovered from them to include, one locally made pistol with one expended cartridge in its chamber and three (3) live cartridges.
She said the suspect has since confessed to the crime and has given the names of his cohorts.
She said “efforts are on to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.”
