Operatives of the Delta State Police Command on April 3, 2021 successfully rescued six kidnap victims from their abductors along the Warri-Sapele Road.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, the Divisional Police Officer of Orerokpe Division, SP Ojo Oluwole, had received information that a Toyota Sienna bus, with Reg. No. BWR 301 SU, was under attack by hoodlums armed with AK-47 rifles at Okutolo, Warri-Sapele Road.
The bandits had shot and injured the driver and a woman, and dragged the other passengers into the bush.
The DPO swiftly mobilised patrol teams, assisted by military patrol team, to the scene and they went after the kidnappers into the forest.
The PPRO said the bandits abandoned their victims and fled when they could no longer withstand the pressure, and the six kidnapped victims were rescued.
They were: Edoma Rita, ‘f’; Evelyn Chinwekwe, ‘f’; Believe Omoruyi, ‘m’; Linus Kojo, ‘m’; Idolo Christina ‘f’; and Ojemudia Esther, ‘f’.
“An injured passenger was rushed to the hospital but was later confirmed dead on admission. Her corpse and that of the driver were deposited in a mortuary,” Edafe said.
The police image maker added that a manhunt is currently on for the arrest of the hoodlums, and that the Commissioner of Police has appealed to members of the public with any useful information that will help to arrest the hoodlums to avail the police.
Edafe also said that on April 4, 2021 police surveillance team of Orogun Division, assisted by anti-cult group, raided a notorious cultists’ hideout in Orogun, where three suspected members of Arrow Barger Confraternity were arrested.
The suspects: Aworo Efe, ‘m’, 25; Ogene Oghenedoro Obiobor, ‘m’, 28; and Great ‘m’ (surname yet unknown) 30, attacked the surveillance team, but were overpowered.
The command therefore parents and guardians to do all they can to discourage their children from joining cults, as this is the mother of virtually all crimes in the country today.
