Suspected armed robbers who raided residents of Jeddo Town in Delta State at gunpoint have been nabbed.
The hoodlums carted away jeweleries, handsets, ATM cards, voter cards, laptops, passport photographs, wrist watches and other valuables estimated at N814,250.
The three-man gang, The Eagle Online gathered, invaded the house of one DavidSunday and Oluwakemi Monica before pouncing on other residents of the town.
The Police Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, who confirmed their arrest at the command’s headquarters, Asaba, said detectives from Ugborikoko Police Station acted on a tip off and raided Delta Palace Hotel, Airport Road, Warri and arrested the hoodlums.
According to Kalu: “One Peter Sunday ‘m’, Collins Sakutu ‘m’, and Princewell Idiemuagele ‘m’ were arrested in connection with the crime.”
She listed the items recovered from them to include assorted jeweleries, five mobile phones, eight wrist watches, one kitchen knife, ATM cards, voters’ cards, passports, 12 Sim Cards (of different networks), clothes, shoes, bags and a rap of dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
Kalu added: “The victims have identified the recovered items as their properties.”
While she said the suspects have been subjected to preliminary investigation at Orerokpe Division, added that suspected cult members were arrested while accreditation was going on at Wards/Units 15, 16, 17 and 19 at Orhuwohorun Primary School in Ovwian Aladja during the Delta State Local Government elections.
She said the suspected cultists/political thugs, numbering over 50, were armed with battle axes, cutlasses and gallons of fuel.
They invaded the polling units, chased away officials of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission and voters and also destroyed some electoral materials before police swooped on them.
Kalu added: “On receipt of the information, patrol teams swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested one Alex Obukowho ‘m’ aged 25yrs with a cutlass while others escaped. Two other cutlasses were recovered at the scene.”
