The Ebonyi State Police Command said it arrested no fewer than 11 suspects in connection with the killing of a youth leader in Akaeze community, Ivo Local Government Area of the state on January 18, 2022.
The victim, Nnaogo Anyim, was allegedly tortured and murdered by suspected members of Ebubeagu security outfit in the area.
Anyim was accused of stealing bamboo in the community and was arrested by a team of Ebubeagu operatives.
Following the development, youths took to the streets on Sunday to protest the alleged murder, destroying property worth millions of Naira.
DSP Loveth Odah, Spokesperson, Ebonyi State Police Command, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abakaliki, that 11 suspects have been arrested over the gruesome murder.
On the protest, Odah said that the destroyed property included the Magistrate Court, police post, a building belonging to Ebubeagu Security Outfit, amongst others.
She added: “The Commissioner of Police has also visited the community and a combined team of the police and military personnel has also been deployed to the area.
“Investigations have commenced.
“I assure you, normalcy have returned.
“The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, has sympathised with the affected family.”
