The Nigeria Immigration Service has handed over about 21 suspected victims of human trafficking rescued at Kongolom border in Katsina State to the Kano Zonal Office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons.
The Zonal Coordinator of the agency in Kano, Abdullahi Babale, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Babale, who spoke on Monday, said the victims were rescued on February 27, 2022.
Amongst the 21 victims rescued, the Coordinator explained, were 13 females and eight males.
Babale further revealed that another set of 27 victims were also rescued at the same Kongolam border and handed over to NAPTIP by the Nigerien Police on February 28, 2022.
According to him: “The rescued victims, 15 females and 12 men, were on their way to Libya, Tunisia and Europe.”
NAPTIP has started an in depth investigation over the two incidents and would prosecute the traffickers shortly, an official indicated.
