Operatives of the police and the Department of State Service on Friday morning took over the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation, The Eagle Online can report.
The three operatives, made up of a policeman and two DSS officials, arrived early on Friday morning at the secretariat of the NFF, popularly called the “Glass House”.
The development is coming on the heels of another apparent face-off between the Executive Committee of the NFF under the leadership of its Acting Chairman, Mike Umeh, and world’s football governing body, FIFA.
FIFA on Thursday wrote to the NFF saying it expects that the upcoming election into the Board of the NFF would be conducted by Aminu Maigari, the ousted President of the NFF.
Following the removal of Maigari by majority of the members of the NFF Board, the former president himself then resigned.
Umeh stepped in as acting chairman.
But FIFA in its letter on Thursday said Maigari remains the only recognised person to conduct the polls.
Umeh, in a late evening statement, said Maigari had resigned from the NFF Board and so would it remain.
Not many were then shocked when security operatives showed up at the secretariat on Friday.
The confusion was their mission: was it to enforce the return of Maigari or to bar him from having access to the NFF secretariat?
None of them was willing to answer any question from the correspondent of The Eagle Online at the secretariat.
Rather, they were only interested in photojournalists not taking their shots.
At about 11.30am, the security operatives drove out of the premises.
They were yet to return as at the time of filing this report.
