Sixteen men are now being quizzed by detectives attached to the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stealing cables worth millions of naira.
The young men, who were arrested by policemen attached to Bar Beach Police Division, in the wee hours of the night around Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, were said to have stormed a warehouse belonging to Nigeria Telecommunication Limited, carting away telephone cables and accessories running into millions of naira.
It was gathered that the suspected vandals had successfully carried out their illegal act before being accosted by the policemen on patrol duty with a full load lorry of the stolen cables.
On interception, the suspects, whose names were given as Mohammed Safiyu, Bernard Nwokeleme, Abu Garba, Abraham Yakubu, Ibrahim Garba, Ali Yahaya, Musubau Lawal, Abubakar Sani, Kamoru Mohammed, Azeez Gazali, Wasiu Isiaka, Christian Obi, Jeremiah Akinwunmi, Adejaye Abolurin, Epa John, Isah Stephen, and Folorunsho Oni could not give a concrete explanation about how they got the cables loaded into their lorry.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for further investigation.
In another development, three suspected armed robbers who were operating on a motorbike around Ikorodu axis were arrested by policemen who were on patrol around the area.
The suspects were arrested with one locally made single barrel gun and two cutlasses along Agric-Owutu Road around 1am with a red boxer motorcycle marked FST 751 QA.
The case is however still being investigated at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja.
