The Sokoto State Police Command on Friday announced the arrest of a suspected armed robber with bullet wounds.
The spokesman of the command, Al-Mustapha Sani, revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Sokoto.
According to Sani, the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Friday at a police check point along Sokoto-Marnona-Isa Road.
He said: “We received a distress call on Thursday that some suspected armed robbers had blocked the road at about 5pm.
“So, the police rushed to the scene and there was a shootout and the hoodlums fled, some with bullet wounds.”
Sani said that the suspect was giving useful information to the police, and would soon be transferred to the command’s headquarters in Sokoto.
The police spokesman said that the command was investigating to know if the suspect was linked to the armed robbery attack in Bargaja town, Isa Local Government Area, on October 27.
He said: “So, we are trying to conduct thorough investigations to get to the root of the attack in Bargaja town and the blockade of the Sokoto-Marnona-Isa Road.
“The two separate incidents took place in the same local government of Isa and they may be connected.
“We are appealing to the residents to offer any useful information that may assist the police in their investigations.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of Isa LGA, Alhaji Umar Mohammed, has commended the state police command for deploying a unit of riot policemen to the area.
Mohammed said: “The Gwadabawa Police Area Command had since relocated to Isa based on the directive of the Commissioner of Police.”
