Seven persons were on Monday arrested by the Police in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, in connection with the violent disturbance in Tundun Gwandara area of the state over the weekend.
No fewer than 10 houses and shops were set ablaze in the course of the disturbance, thus forcing residents to flee the area for safety.
However, no life was lost in the process.
The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Ogochukwu Theodore, a DSP,
confirmed that seven suspects were arrested in connection to the disturbance.
Theodore added that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation was completed.
Findings by The Eagle Online showed that apart from the houses and shops that were burnt during the disturbance that lasted for hours, tension is now very high within and around Lafia metropolis.
The disturbance occurred barely few hours after soldiers reportedly dispatched rioters that had barricaded the trunk A federal highway along Shabu-Akwanga.
The blockage was believed to be a revenge mission following attack on the area by suspected Eggon youths on Sunday.
An increased patrol team of military and police was noticed moving round the streets of Lafia and its environs to forestall any eventuality.
The disturbance forced shop owners along Doma Road, Bukan Sidi, UAC and Makurdi roads as well as other parts of Lafia metropolis to hurriedly lock their shops.
The state Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, who was obviously disturbed by the ugly developments in the state in the recent time, was forced convene an emergency security council meeting, which was ongoing as at press time.
Theodore however explained further that adequate policemen were mobilized to the scene of the incident, which helped in calming the situation.
