The Lagos State Police Command has launched investigation into the activities of a suspected robber, who almost blinded his female victim.
The young lady, Juliet Ibekeme, was saved from becoming blind after she was rescued by policemen from the robber who has been identified as Akinyeni Gbenga.
Ibekeme, who resides at 16, Jubrila Street Lagos, was said to be on her way to work when she was accosted by Gbenga, who dispossessed her of her phone and cash of N6,000.
It was gathered that Ibekeme, who resisted at first, became jittery when the suspect pointed a pistol at her.
Ibekeme, who thought the end had come, quickly handed over all the valuables.
But the robber, for reasons best known to him, hit her in the face, inflicting injury on her left eye.
According to sources, Ibekeme, who held on to her left eye, ran and screamed for help just as the suspected armed robber made away with her valuables.
Luck however ran out Gbenga, who was said to have run straight into the path of policemen from Makinde Police Station, who were on patrol duty.
They were already alerted by the screams of pain of Ibekeme and when they saw Gbenga fleeing, the policemen pursued and arrested him.
Similarly, one Buchi Okonkwo is now in police net for robbing one Samuel Aduku Okolo of unspecified amount of money and other valuables.
Buchi was said to have gone to the Ibeju, Lekki home of Samuel, dispossessing him of his valuables.
Meanwhile, 58 cartridges and two locally made pistols have been recovered by detectives from a criminal hideout in Lagos.
Detectives attached to Alakara Police Division were said to have gotten a tip-off that a shop located around the area was serving as armoury for hoodlums. Acting on the information, police raided the hideout and recovered the weapons.
According to sources, on getting to Oyekunle Street, where the shop is situated, detectives were shocked as they allegedly found cartridges and guns in the shop.
Confirming these incidents, the spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide, said the incidents are being investigated by detectives from the State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba.
