The Katsina State Police Command has arrested an Indian hemp dealer and recovered large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
It was learnt that on November 13 at about 11:30pm, a Police Patrol team attached to Dandume Division, acting on a tip off, succeeded in arresting one Isiya Lawal, 24, of Makama Road, Dandume LGA of Katsina State in possession of 195 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, disclosed the incident in a statement.
According to Isah, in the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence one Muntari alias ‘Dan Ruma’, of Tudun Ali, Dandume LGA of Katsina State (now at large) to be the supplier of the said Indian hemp.
Isah added that investigation was ongoing.
The Command has also arrested two notorious bandit and recovered one AK 47 rifle.
It was learnt that on Tuesday at about 7am, based on credible intelligence, DPO Safana and team in collaboration with repentant bandits succeeded in arresting one Tukur Abu, 30, and Dahiru Lawal, 30, both of Muniya village, Safana LGA of Katsina State.
According to the PPRO, the bandits, who also engage in armed robbery, kidnap and cattle rustling, were hibernating at Illella forest but terrorising Safana and Batsari LGAs of the state.
Isah said tin the course of investigation, one AK 47 rifle was recovered in their possession.
He stated that the suspects confessed to several banditry attacks on villages in Safana and Batsari LGAs of Katsina State, leading to armed robbery, kidnappings and cattle rustling.
The Command also busted a notorious armed robbery syndicate that specialises in killing motorcyclists and snatching their motorcycles.
It was learnt that on Monday at about 8pm, the Command succeeded in smashing the syndicate.
Isah said nemesis caught up with the suspects, whose names are Surajo Lawai, of Kofar Guga Quarters, Katsina, Hamisu Samaila alias ‘Abu Kwalwa, 20, Habila Abubakar alias ‘Ebele, 25, all of Sabon Gida Quarters, Katsina, when they were arrested in connection with a case of Shop breaking and theft.
Isah said in the course of investigation, suspects confessed that on November 14 at about 23:00hrs, they conspired and attacked one Yusuf Isiya of Farin Yaro Quarters, Katsina, a motorcyclist, along Ring Road, Katsina by Bugaje exit with dangerous weapons, killed the rider and made away with his Hero motorcycle, valued one hundred and fifty thousand.
He said the suspects confessed that one Anas Gagare, 25, and Danfakal, 26, of Jibia, their cohorts (now at large) have disposed the said motorcycle at Maradi, Niger Republic.
Isah also reported that the Command has smashed a notorious syndicate of thieves that specialises in motorcyclists and tricycle theft.
It was learnt that on Monday at about 8pm, the Command succeeded in smashing the syndicate.
According to the PPRO, on November 9 at about 2pm, based on a tip off, DPO Central Police Station, Katsina succeeded in smashing a notorious syndicate of tricycles and motorcycles thieves terrorising Katsina metropolitan area and its environs.
Isah said on that day, one Hamisu Nagogo of Kofar Kaura Quarters, Katsina reported at the CPS, Katsina that his tricycle with registration No. 321 VE, valued at N660,000, was stolen from their house in the night.
He said tone Abdulkarim Mukhtar, 26, of Danhako Quarters was seen that night pushing the said tricycle.
Isah said in the course of investigation, the suspect was traced and arrested.
He also noted that the suspect confessed to have conspired and stolen the tricycle with one Auwal Abdulrashid, 23, of the same address and took it to one Babangida Mohammed, alias ‘BB’, 31, of the same address, an ex-convict and a habitual criminal, that specialises in theft of tricycles and motorcycles in Katsina.
He stated that several incriminating items were recovered in the suspect’s house during police search, which included two booklets of forged receipt bearing Abdulmumini Yandaki Trading Company and Makudawa Motorcycles, a forged stamp pad, two master keys and other parts of motorcycles.
Similarly, during the raid, one Hussaini Rabi’u,18, of Zango LGA of Katsina State was also arrested in the house of the said ex-convict ‘BB’, in possession of one Royal Honda Motorcycle.
Isah noted that Rabi’u, confessed to have conspired with one Danmallam, (now at large) and stole it from Maradi in Niger Republic.
He added that investigation was ongoing.
